Uniquely Interactive Workshop

Matter Real Estate has created a real estate workshop to equip executives that serve K-12 school organizations in New York City with actionable knowledge. Our workshop aims to enable executives to effectively serve their organizations by providing a hands-on experience that explores real estate in-depth and describes the key elements of the real estate development process.

We are happy to announce that we held a successful workshop on September 17th 2019 focused on real estate issues that are relevant to K-12 school organizations in New York City. Executives from Six organizations benefited from a hands-on experience that included real-world case studies. Together, we explored real estate in depth and covered the key elements of the real estate development process.

Alex Weis
Matter | Principal
Alex partners with clients to plan, oversee, and execute complex real estate projects successfully. Through his work, he gets to support causes he is passionate about. Real estate projects impact the financial well-being of not-for-profit organizations and property owners. He recognizes that financial resources saved during a project can be used to support the client’s mission. Alex founded Matter Real Estate in 2017 to develop a new model of collaboration between like-minded architects, engineers, builders, and others. Notable clients include Goodwill, Brennan Real Estate, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, Academy of the City Charter School and Seton Education Partners.
Ben Pell
PellOverton Architects | Architect

Ben Pell is a Registered Architect in New York and Rhode Island, and received his Master of Architecture degree from UCLA and his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University. Ben has served on the faculty at the Yale School of Architecture and currently teaches courses in educational facility design at the Rhode Island School of Design. Ben’s writing on design for education has been featured in various publications, and he has presented the work and practices of PellOverton for the National Business Officers Association (NBOA) and the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE).

Tate Overton

PellOverton Architects | Architect

Tate Overton is a Registered Architect in New York and New Jersey, and received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Kentucky. Tate has extensive experience in commercial construction management and turn-key design-build delivery, and has provided construction consulting services in Connecticut and the New York metro area. He has guided PellOverton through several successful educational design projects including the Kennedy Children’s Center, Brooklyn Heights Montessori, and Blue School.

Ryan Alexander
Facilities Investment Fund (Civic Builders) | Senior VP Corporate Development

Ryan Alexander oversees the Facilities Investment Funds, which is a groundbreaking $200 million loan fund that is committed to improving facilities financing for high-performing public charter schools and networks nationwide. Most recently, Ryan was Co-Founder and President of LightSail Education, where he grew the company to serve 500 schools representing more than 300,000 students at the time the company was acquired by an international private equity firm in early 2018. Previously, as the Chief Financial Officer of Success Academy Charter Schools, Ryan helped manage the rapid expansion of NYC’s highest-performing and fastest-growing charter organization from an annual budget of $40 million to more than $140 million in three years. Prior to Success Academy, Ryan was Managing Partner at Argyle Holdings and oversaw the acquisition, financing and development of premier residential properties in Northern Manhattan.

Development Site Advisors | Partner
Lev Kimyagarov is one of the Managing Principals and Co-Founders of Development Site Advisors, identifying and filling a niche expertise that has been non-existent in the commercial real estate brokerage industry. The principals of Development Site Advisors have been involved with the sale of over $1bn and involved in projects of various sizes and manners of complexity, with non-profit clients including religious organizations, schools, and supportive housing developers. Lev’s expertise lies particularly in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx where he has been involved in the sale of over 100 properties during his time in the industry. Development Site Advisors focuses solely on development sites and conversion opportunities in the five boroughs. This specialization leads to more positive client experiences due to the superior knowledge the firm offers. Prior to co-founding Development Site Advisors, Lev was a Senior Director at Eastern Consolidated, Cushman & Wakefield and Massey Knakal Realty Services, where he was recognized for his outstanding performance.

Cliff focuses his practice on advising individuals and organizations that are innovating in the areas of education, business and the non-profit sector. Whether it’s a school, a start-up business, existing business or a social enterprise, Cliff guides his clients through projects big and small and the many twists and turns experienced along the way.   2. How to navigate the NYC real estate market and successfully navigate the purchase or lease of a property.
  3. How to successfully manage design, permitting and construction on budget and on time.
  4. How to close out a project successfully and plan for the long term.
